Window tinting can reduce harsh visible light on screens and polished surfaces. The desired glare reduction should be balanced against how much daylight and outdoor view you want to retain.
Interior exposure

Appearance

Solar Heat Gain Coefficient
Solar Heat Gain Coefficient, commonly shortened to SHGC, describes the fraction of solar radiation admitted through a window system. Lower numbers mean less solar heat passes through. Ask for a rating that applies to the proposed glass-and-film combination, not a number copied from an unrelated product sheet.
Visible Transmittance
Visible Transmittance, or VT, describes how much visible light passes through. A higher number generally means more daylight. This rating helps compare a nearly clear product with a darker or more reflective choice without judging performance by appearance alone.
Glare or visible-light reduction
Manufacturers may publish glare-reduction or visible-light-reduction information. Use the exact data supplied for the product under consideration. A home office may need a different balance than a great room where preserving a bright Gulf Coast view is the priority.
Clear, lightly tinted or reflective?
There is no single best answer for every Sarasota property. A lighter product may preserve natural light and exterior appearance. A darker product may provide stronger visible-light reduction.
